A Weighty Issue

At my 6 week postpartum visit, my doctor said I was all free and clear to lift heavy objects, start dieting, etc. So last Monday I began Weight Watchers' program for nursing mothers. James began the regular Weight Watchers program with me so we are doing it together. So far it is really going well. My biggest challenge isn't calculating points but rather that I still can't have any dairy and have tried to minimize soy, not to mention no Orange Juice, which would be half the points of Apple Juice. I actually have an Excel file on which I organize Cecilia's weight gain on the left side and my (hopeful) weight loss on the right side and each of us get a chart in the middle. So hopefully over time the lines on our charts will get farther and farther apart. Cecilia gains, on average, 7 ounces per week, which puts her about two pounds heavier per month. Let's just say I hope I lose a bit faster than she gains.

On a side note, I think I've solved the mystery of Cecilia's grumpy and fussy afternoons --- NOT ENOUGH SLEEP!!! Yesterday, as an experiment, every time Cecilia woke, I fed her, checked her diaper and tried almost immediately to get her back to sleep. One hour I slept with her, one hour I did all I could just to keep her asleep. Twice I literally talked her to sleep (I'm becoming the Golden Girl Rose Nylund with St. Olaf Stories I fear). Once the UPS man woke her with a doorbell and once I woke her by talking on the phone. BUT the fussiness was reduced from the 7 or so hours from the previous day to about an hour yesterday. As far as why she wakes so easily, I do not know. I think it is possible she has a mild case of reflux, but I'm not sure. But I will keep up the sleep drilling in the hopes of a happier Cecilia.
